Did you know?
Concussion is one of the most common injuries in sports –with up to 30% of those playing contact sports suffering a concussion each season. This is not limited to contact sports- horse riding, cheerleading and cycling can have high levels of concussions after falls and accidents.
BUT, it is still estimated that 50% (or more) of all concussions are not detected or reported.
Unfortunately, poor management of concussion can lead to prolonged disability, permanent brain damage or even death. With the correct approach this doesn't have to be the case.
Secondary impact syndrome – a hit on the head when the brain is still recovering from a concussion – can lead to permanent brain damage or death.
Post-concussion syndrome occurs in more than 1 in 3 cases of concussion. Meaning people having prolonged symptoms and suffering - getting quick and correct treatment can prevent someone developing post-concussion syndrome.
Thankfully, we can also treat post-concussion syndrome and get someone back to their normal sports and daily activities.
Concussion education is not covered on many medical and allied health profession curriculums – meaning many doctors, physios and chiropractors are managing concussion incorrectly.
If you are a sports club, school or involved in other activity groups and would like more information we offer a FREE education course and FREE help setting up your concussion policies.
Treatment for concussion and post-concussion syndrome is backed by years of scientific research and more often than not, leads to a full recovery!
